The following is are a few selected
excerpts from the published article which quotes Gary Ranker,
David Westervelt, and others you may know:
Honeybees and their
keepers are both facing threats. The bees help make
Florida one of the top-five honey producers in the
country...commercial beekeeping is not as prevalent as it used
to be. There's still commercial beekeeping, but (some are
afraid) of the threat of bees disappearing." ...Backyard
beekeeping, on the other hand, is on the rise. Florida has
approximately 1,500 small-scale beekeepers, managing five or

Local Association Display Table
at the Bee College
The Honey
Bee Research and Extension Laboratory (HBREL) hosted a local club display table at the Bee College in the
back of the banquet hall so that each club could advertise
(their meetings, events, etc.), showcase pictures, and
distribute brochures, etc. This year there was an improved
version of the wonderful map of Florida showing where each bee
club is located, it was patterned after the Florida Map on the
Local Association page of the FSBA webpage.
Local clubs were urged to participate in this display
and take advantage of the opportunity to showcase your club.
Contact person was Elaine Suber [misselaineous@comcast.net] 614 Truett
Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32303, phone: 850-443-1055, who
coordinated your local association's display. It was requested
that your club representative, even if they were not attending the
Bee College, to send Elaine some materials to display ahead of
time. There was no need for any local members to tend to the
table, Elaine and Jeannette Klopchin handled the set-up. The
display was designed to be self-serve.
